Little baby Fahaka just not growing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This makes me feel a little better. I bought my mini-fahaka when he was about 1.5 inches. He grew slowly in a planted 30g to about 3" over the course of 6 months. The next 4 years was in 55g where he grew to 5". Then onto the 120g where he put on an inch in another year. Since then I have switch him back to the 55g. I blamed myself for water quality, but the parameters were always great. I also blamed food, but he gets live crawdads, snails, and market shrimp. He is very passive to tank mates. Thank you OP for posting about your mini-fahaka and helping me realize it's not bad care on my part. The little guy is about 7 years old at this point.

The puffer in my avatar was my 1st fahaka, and grew quickly to 15" in 2 years; it would ravage everything except a feeder goldfish that was its soul-mate.

For all those who say they have smaller fahaka's did you deworm your puff when you first got it?

Coz i've had mine for almost 2 years and realized i dont think i ever got rid of the worms completely...

So that maybe a possible cause...

I never did anything specific to deworm my puffer. Didn't think I had to since he always looked happy healthy and plump. He has gained wait, and stays nice and round, but just refuses to grow. He's still the same size to this date. No growth at all. I'm either gonna trade him or sell him to someone who wants a mini, and try to get a growing one. Maybe move him to my 30g and sell my salivator, which would totally upset him downsizing his tank. Or just sell him and start with something Not puffers in my 120. I'd like a fire eel, and some other tankmates. Right now my tank bores me. Fahaka is always sleeping or buried, hasn't grown, and the Only action is my upside down cat.

I'm glad we didnt end up trading because you woulda been mad at me because my puff daddy hasnt growed either and he was treated before i got him so i think there was a whole bunch of little guys imported.. anyway i bought a big one ..but my main focus is to find a mbu puffer and im looking every were every day lol

One thing i've learned is even if they look plump and healthy they could still have worms... Although in my case it wasn't overly apparent until i actually saw her pooping worms...

And just for the record i've thought i dealt with this problem already twice before when she was younger...

But thats just ny experience...

This is gonna sound weird but I have actually watched my little Guy take some pretty rediculous poops on multiple occasions. Never anything white, or stringy though. If anything its a miracle this fish can pass the crap that he does. Took him a solid couple hours to pass what looked like a piece of driftwood (kidding) after hunting every snail In the tank down In one meal. I think he's healthy. Maybe ill try to deworm just in case. What meds do you recomemd and I can soak his clams and squid in it. Don't know what else to do really, and like I said I set up a expensive tank for him and he just looks out of place so small In such a huge tank even though I know he's very content.
