I can upgrade to a 30 breeder if it makes a difference. Its a 36x18x12
Hello all. I have a small empty tank open I'm looking for a small aggressive fish to hate me. I've been looking at a few fish, so far I like the firemouth cichlids and may consider a male convict with a head hump. Are there any that will attack you through the glass? Any other suggestions? It will be the only fish in the tank if that helps.
mbuna kenyi male. my husband got me one "to keep my little blue fish company" without knowing how territorial and aggressive they become., Our lfs never had africans before. they were all juveniles and packed tight in 2 small tanks. Husband brought me "the brightest yellow" one in the store. craziest fish I've ever had.
when they aren't kept in highly crowded groups with lots of hiding places (as recommended for mbunas) they focus on any other target, like you. After a couple of years he became very pet-like. recognizes owners/feeders vs strangers. and lately he doesn't even shave skin off my hand when I put it in his tank.
The tank will look empty & boring at first, though.

Normally, Firemouth are shy and I don't expect it to be a glass banger. But I am surprised to have witnessed a glass banging Firemouth at the ACA bowl show in Silver Spring, MD a few years ago. Under some conditions, a normally mellow cichlid can turn into a glass banger. There is a LFS in Philly, Fish Factory, that houses individual cichlid in small plexi glass cubicles Under solitary confinement in see through dividers between neighbors, many cichlid have turned into glass banger, including unlikely candidates such as Frontosa, Geophagus, small Haps and Mbuna. None of these fish in a community environment are known to be a glass banger.
