Ever hear of a 'royal banded tiger'? It's a breed of delhezi developed to have lots of black stripes and spots covering most of it's dorsal surface.
Any fish with stripes could be called tiger, like tiger dats, tiger barb, etc... etc..
The point is, it's just a common name so it doesn't really matter.
