Live Clarias Catfish $8.99lb

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's rare cases of ciguatera in those species but they are still eaten commonly

FW species are few freshwater gobies called O'opu. You see those guys more in the upper streams. The island I live on has no gamefish but a few introduced exotics. I grew up on Kauai and they have the gamefish and some on O'ahu

So there are no large predatory FW native to HI, just Gobies that likely evolved from the ocean?
Yeah I'll stick with American catfish which I love to eat and do actually purchase fresh.
You ever eat a Flathead? lol Pangasius is American......South

Nope. In fact haven't even had a chance to fish for them. I'm pretty sure they are restricted in Hi.

Wait aren't Pangasuis native to Asia
I thought they were SA, but I guess I'm about to go look it up again. LOL Hard to remember so many species ahaha....plus all the NEW stuff I learned after I joined MFK....I'm overloading my brain with new stuff and starting to have to think for a while about reptile info. I'm loading too much in my brain and the older stuff is leaking out somewhere in my head

EDIT: time elapsed - Just checked, you are right....native to S.E. Asia

"In 2011, Pangasius was sixth in the National Fisheries Institute’s “Top 10” list of the most consumed seafood in the United States.[4] The Top 10 is based on tonnage of fish sold. According to the NFI, this mild-flavored white-fleshed fish is farmed in Asia, and is being used increasingly in food service. It is finding its way onto restaurant menus and into stores, as well, where one may see it called basa, tra, or swai."

$8.99 a pound, imagine what we pay per pound for some of the aquarium species we keep.

About 12-13in. They are supposedly good eating but I haven't ever tried one

I bet you could have a lot of fun with them on ULSpin/Fly tackle w/ 2-lb. test

I know divemaster99 divemaster99 would try it out

Here is the only native FW predator, aside from a few saltwater species that reside in brackish areas.
