deathsting-Look bottom line is I agree with your statements about a varied diet. I think our lines of communication got crossed somewhere between the 20+ pages of this thread.

Not off topic.

Best insects IMO are moths. Bettles could be O.K. as long as they aren't too hard, I don't see it being an issue though. Ants are pretty small, wouldn't really fill your fish up. Tadpoles! Never thought of that, probably pretty good snack. Snails wouldn't help much unless you got a larger one and those can be expensive. I usually just grab the biggest bugs flying around my outside lights at night.

thank you, and what about ants for small monsters? and i use a lot of snails for my loaches (dojo and clown) and i've found bgk love them as well. just curious on snails because my farm pond has them all over meaning a limitless supply

hybridtheoryd16-dude seriously lay off the cichlid hating-I have an idea of what types of fish you keep-Aces and Predatory Characin-believe it or not they can be weened off live food-you just haven't tried.

Weened as in I can starve my fish for a few days or weeks and then it will eat what I want it too. Thats a joke.

And I do not hate cichlids, I actually keep many many fish and I have some convicts and pbass as well. I just want to make it crystal clear that 95% of what is said in this thread is useless for apex or top level predators.

As someone else said beofore cichlids are the garbage disposal of the fish world. They will eat anything pellets, algae wafers , flakes , feeders, meats, etc, etc. But a true predator will not show any interest in 99% of most of the foods mentioned in this thread. Without starvation or other forms of cruel and unusual torture.

I keep convicts
p bass
fahaka puffer
pea puffer
bumble bee goby
wrestling half beaks
large mouth bass
green sunfish
Yellow tail cudas
red tail cuda
Hydrolycus Tatuaia/ red payara
hujeta characins
needle fish
sengal bichir
platy's
guppies
goldfish
fat head minnows
common pleco's
So most of my fish are not apex predators. And my fish food cabinet is pretty large.

cichlids are apex predators..
which world are you living in!
have you heard of the DOVII cichlid!?
some scavenger huh!
u really crack me up...
dovii dont scavenge they hunt!
and i am willing to bet any fish would eat a dead fish ...(in the wild)
rather than hunting for one
ANY FISh

infact non of my fish are apex preds.
