BTS need uvb too... and I agree baby beardies can eat but the adult s don't eat all that much.
thiers no proof of BTS needing uvb to live a long healthy live other than times you can take it out in the sun or if your not giving calc with d3.GO to BTS.net

Lol have you read the care sheet? Here is a quote from the caresheet on http://www.bluetongueskinks.net/blue.htm

This little rumor doesn't ever seem to go away, but it's been said that blue tongued skinks are one of the few reptiles that do not require UV lighting. It doesn't hurt however, and is still generally recommended. Like anything though, there are varying opinions about this. I'm not sure how the rumor actually got started that blue tongues don't need UV lighting, but I find it hard to believe that they are some magical reptile that is excluded from the benefits of UV

yes it does help to take them outside but not everyone can take them outside all year.

it still says its not prooven just like I said.Ive seen plenty of BTS that were over 10 years old and were not set up with uvb and they have great weight and health and they just had a good diet and temps.I didnt say they wouldnt benifit from it but just like in the care sheet you just linked me too even he sounds all wishy washy from it.

look and here in the BTS issue of reptiles it says this........."It has been rumored that BTS do not require uv lighting. However it dosnt hurt, and is still generally recommended.BTS are generally hardy, but I find it hard to believe that they are excluded from the benefits of uv rays.",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anyways, dont want to argue it but the fact is is tons of big time breeders and keepers long term for these guys dont use uvb lighting.I agree totaly that they can benefit from it and thats why I take my BTS outside all the time, but I dont want ppl to think their BTS will not live a normal life without the lights in the cage if they keep the diet correct and give it some outside exposure.I understand if you live in NEW York or something. Anyways, didnt want to argue,I see your concern for the species and thats awesome, but it still is a debatable topic that has more proof from one side. I may even hook one up in my cage who knows.

im really thinking of a beardie.

I have never heard mine. ever. And he's right next to my bed.

Lucky, my tokays (also next to the bed) would wake me up all the time...

Also, for what it's worth, I raised a BTS to adulthood with no UVB lights. She's in great shape too. Feed 'em mice like a monitor for the calcium.
