I currently am battling my new large mouth bass set up. I have 4 2-3” LM Bass set up in a 10gal tank. Well I had to replace 3 fish already due to the fact one died in transport and 2 died because I fed them minnows and they choked.

My question to you intelligent people (Which obviously I am not) is what would be the ideal 10gal set up for these fish? I need to know temps, water maintenance, and any other important info I might need to know. I don’t think I wanna see another dead bass in my tank so I need to get this right.

I realize a 10gal set up is small but this is only temporary for about 2 – 3 months and I will purchase a 150gal or bigger.

Thanks for your help…….

hmmm this is a new one. first, let the tank temp be at room temp, so no heater. as to aquascape, just have some type of floating plant, cause they like cover. as to filtration on a 10 gal, get a aquaclear 30 and do water changes as needed. but if i were you and were planning to get a bigger tank in 2-3 months, i would buy atleast a 30 gallon til that time. a 10 gallon with 4 lmb's in it is stretching it even at that size. or even getting a 20 gallon long. what size minnows did you feed them? you need to find some breeder guppies or cut up small worms. got any pics of the lmbs?

lmb simply wont work in a 10g for any period of time. Take them back to the store and grab some mollies. when you get the 150g, then you can think about temporarily housing lmb. with 4 lmb the 150g will last 6mos-1 year and then you'll need something bigger. in short. start with smaller fish.

I fed them red rosies and for sure I will post soem pics soon. I also just went through a problem with ICH but I think I took care of that.

Thanks for the sugestion, This fish are around 2-3" and I thought the 10gal woould be fine for now.

If you believe this set up could harm the fish please let me know. As of now they seem ok

ich has tendency to linger, so keep up the necessary adjustments. rosys might be a lil too big at this stage too. unless that are really small which they prolly were not if they choked on em.

I say throw in a stick that reaches from one corner to the opposite corner of the tank. From my experience in keeping lmb they tend to favor sticks. Other than that, maybe some sparse vegetation but they need as much open space as possible in a 10g. I would say a 20-30 might be better...for about two months.

are you saying a lmb will grow more than 18-20 inches in a year? dont think so

well people dont put oscars (well people do, but shouldnt) in a 10 gallon...considering lmb get twice the size of oscars, you need to rehome them imediately. also i find it hard to believe they choked on feeders??? if youre not going to remove the fish, whats the point of asking the questions. if you do take them back to the store, then good job, youve done the right thing.

so you are saying that nobody should keep (4) 2-3 inch fish ever in a 10 gallon? yes they shouldnt be in there for long but as to this stuff that he needs to rehome them immediately is extreme.
