A Spotted bass is still a Largemouth. And you are correct, Texas does not stock spotted bass typically. Seeing as how I did not buy them in Texas, ordered from Kentucky, where the Spotted Bass is the State fish, things might start to add up for you a little better.

Micropterus punctulatus (Spotted bass) = Micropterus salmoides (Largemouth bass) ?

Several things here are not adding up to be honest. So in this topic that is titled "LMB fingerlings arrived" you've already confirmed them as spotted bass and then further equate two distinct species under two common names as one.

Lets be clear here:
Micropterus salmoides are Largemouth Bass
Micropterus punctulatus are Spotted Bass

These have been recognized as distinct species for nearly 100 years.

Back to the original question....What did you pay for? Micropterus salmoides (Largemouth Bass) or Micropterus punctulatus (Spotted Bass)?

I also have a question, if things arent adding up, what exactly are you trying to reach the sum of? Are you just confused that the title says LMB but the fish are actually spotted? The post I edited states that the fish I ordered were advertised as LMB, but in fact they are Spotted, and I knew they were spotted when I opened the box. But being that Spotted are uncommon in Texas, we have always refered to them as Kentucky or Spotted as the difference is obvious. I was just ignorant to the fact that they were officially two totally different species. So, I have Spotted Bass, not Largemouth. Learn something new everyday.

Ten minutes ago you didn't even know that spotted and largemouth were different fish. I'm now supposed to believe you "knew" as soon as you opened the box they are spotted bass? I can support the belief that you have largemouth bass in two ways...you bought largemouth from a hatchery. Hatcheries have standards and not perfect, they usually assure the right species. I've not yet heard of a hatchery that produces spotted bass as they are a stream fish and not usually stocked in the typical pond (where lmb would be stocked).

How exactly are you distinguishing spotted bass from largemouth bass at this age?

Mr. LMB what are you? Oh a spotted, I thought so, heres a scooby snack!

Mr. Bass: So long and thanks for all the fish!

Nice fingerlings Venom. These LMB's make very nice pets. They eat anything and they show lots of personality. Mine always comes up to me and allows me to even touch it. Only bad thing is that its pics on other fishes. So I had to give it away.

Anyways, I dont know what kind of LMB I had, but here it is.

How am I distinguishing them at this age? Probably because I have seen tons of LMB fingerlings in my lifetime. I grew up catching Florida Largemouth and I knew that these were not Florida Largemouth immediatly.

But to the point, what does it matter if I got them from a hatchery or not? Youre throwing up some kind of big red conspiracy flag because I said I got them from a hatchery but they dont raise spots in hatcheries...who cares where I got them from? The simple fact is that I ordered fish, and these are what I got. Spots. So apparently someone is raising spotted bass, or else I wouldnt have got them. I am not the only one who ordered from this place, and they too received Spots.
