LMB won't eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1.any background is fine they dont NEED one its personal preferance. i would go with plain black by personal choice.

2.yes

3.i dont feed any of my fish on any kind of schedule. and i dont 'crimple' any live fish. lmb are fast and if they want to eat it they will, but it is best to get them off of live foods if you can.

4.like any fish a variety is best. i feed mine live feeders, worms, market shrimp, pellets, crickets, and very occasional treats like tree frogs etc.

I think my thread should be changed to LMB won't stop fighting!

They're all feeding now but this one LMB is beating up the other two. Will he outgrow this or he won't stop stop until the other two are killed?

This should be made a sticky for what not to do! I cant stop reading this thread but it is like a train wreck.

By the way fighting is very common with males and can get very ugly. As you probably know since you fish for them they can kill something to include another bass with ease.

The one will not stop until the others are dead. The one fish obviously the more dominant one is saying "hey this whole tank is my domain you other two go find your own 100g of water to occupy." I experienced this same issue with my LMB. I had him for about 4 months by himself. He was about 4 inches long. Then when I went fishing one day some guy had a bucket and said "hey want to use some live bait?" so I said sure. Come to find out the dude has a bucket filled with juvie LMB, green sunfish, and blue gills mixed with a couple minnows. Me being the LMB lover I am, I took the two LMB he had and brought them home for tank mates. The downfall was they were too small. One was about 2.5 inches and the other was about 3 inches. Instantly my LMB went to town nipping them. I took the two out after about 5 minutes of watching the brawl and my girlfriend crying.

They are now on separate tanks. The two non aggressive ones are in the same tank while the aggressive one is by his lonesome. All 3 are doing well and are actively chasing food.

I wish they'd feed on some of the craw I gave them.I'll try earthworms soon.

Just throw in your crawdads, they will keep the tanks clean from dead minnows and earthworms and later on your bass will find a tasty treat in the middle of the night.
Great work by the way.

my bass doesnt seem to like my red wigglers (a lot of people call them earthworms, guess I'm splitting hairs). I've read that their slim coating is supposed to taste bad to fish... can't tell from my hybrid sunfish, but who knows. The only thing I've gotten him to eat so far are bugs I throw in the tank or bloodworms. But mines only like 4 inches long.

I agree with Fatherof5... just let the crawdaddies keep your aquarium clean till the bass eat them.
