Local Aquarium Club/Society

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Was a member back in the 70s when I lived in Clifton. Had to switch to the SDTFS (San Diego Tropical Fish Society) when I joined the Navy.

That is very cool Oddball! Clifton is a couple towns over from where I live.. there are a lot of old timers still active you should try to reconnect...

I actually added this thread to there FB page here.

I currently serve as President of the Indianapolis Aquarium Club, the Circle City Aquarium Club.
In the past, we started a local cichlids club but then opted to go join the CCAC. Since joining, I have also served on the board of directors prior to being nominated and elected for the current role.

I knew you would be involved Pharoah... post a link so people can connect in your area.

I have no problem joining NJAS, which I plan on doing. I doubt I can make the meetings. However, I always try to attend and support their functions. I met some nice people today at the auction. It would be cool IMO if MFK could do something with NJAS like we did with that other group. I agree the "store tours" get bigger every time we have them The whole NE is a very active area for fishkeeping, so there is plenty of interest in the area. We talked about having a get together hear at my house in a month or so, maybe we can talk more about this on a local level then. I strongly encourage all MFK'ers to join and support their local clubs and have meets similar to ours.

Adams Pet Safari is an awesome place. I go down to HackleBarney to hike and I always stop there on the way home. Thats how I found out about the auction. I deff will look into it. Good seeing you Mike and JayD.

There is a small reef club up here in my neighborhood. Basically just an online forum for discussion, etc. There is talk of expanding the forum to include a freshwater section, which I hope happens. Several years ago a club was going. We had some nice presenters come up (Anthony Calfo for one), but money, politics, and personalities wreaked it.

I belong to MAS http://milwaukeeaquariumsociety.com/forum/index.php, and the ACA (American Cichlid Assn, and have belonged to gcca, gcca.net/classifieds/view-and-post-ads#.VTT3Qxe6AdV
Since starting to go to their auctions, and swaps meets, and/ or simply from members, I have been provided opportunities at more interesting fish, and at prices (or trades) and in quantities I could ever find else ware.
And because of availability, I have tried fish I may have never thought twice about.
My club also has speakers, and learning opportunities that have open my eyes to many possibilities.
We had an expert speaker on freshwater stingrays the other day, totally fascinating.
