Well,

My wife thinks that I paid for my Hystrix less than $100... I always lowers the price for my fish for about 30-50%. The same situation when she has extra discount, every time when I ask her why I see new clothes in her closet ;(

Couple days ago I told her that I just buy a "gift" for my birthday (I have birthday on March), and she doesn't need to buy anything for me. She was looking at me and asked: "What a fish now I bought and for how much ?" I answered her that I didn't buy any fish... but I ordered a new tank for fish that I already have.
That day I had to sleep on my basement (btw. with my fish) ;)))
 
My family it's normal for since I was raised with a house with fish tanks. But my gfs family I've been asked y do u waste so much time with these "things?". Or omg y would pay that much for a fish, it's not like it's a dog. Then when they've asked how big do they get and I reply with 30" diameter I get omg that won't fit in this, well that's y I'm building a 300g tank. What!!!!!! Thats like Boston aquarium. Lol that's wut I get.

That is a commonly used practice from what I have heard.;) Plus I used the line
of when my blacks start breeding I can sell them for 1000 a pup. Well then all things
changed. I didn't tell in the beginning it could take 2-3 years before breeding commenced.:D
Most of my friends and relatives are amazed and think the rays are gorgeous but are shocked
when they hear prices.
 
I have 8 ray tanks only one is under 450 gallons. I have 26 rays and Most think it is awesome. I try not to splurge prices unless its the pup prices. My gf of 4 years left me because of these damn rays. Im sure there will be a girl that comes along and accepts the fact I have a future business in breeding and its something I enjoy. I also have a 450 gallon reef. I have no time for anything but these damn tanks haha! I love it and thats all that matters! Most dont really get it but they would if they were in our shoes!
 
Yeah ive found not to tell them to much about the "future tank ideas" when i told them the next one i want will be in the 400 Gallon range family gave me funny looks!
 
HaHA Good to see I'm not the only one with fishues (fish issues)! My BF calls my LFS my "fish dealer" and always asks if I got my "fix" and how much. I dont always tell him what I pay....and deff not anything over $100...lol but he knows.. He says the fish are your thing and I'm not helping you...yet I always catch him watching them, pointing things out, and asking if he can feed them...lol I will turn him to the Fishy side yet!!
 
Oh I wish to join your ray fueled ranks, but once me and the misses get a house we own. . .Untill then I have promised her that the 75 I'm setting up will be it till then, but she wants a bigger tank for her goldies, and they really will need it inside a year...so a 75 for hers too..
Her family does not believe we are saving anything. My dad always asks what I do for fun and asks again when I tell him about the tanks. My co workers wander off when I mention fish, like I wander off when Ben starts talking about his thing for shaving large ladies...
 
You can always tell your spouse/family that "I could be doing worse things."
