Logistics of growing out?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im with ragin especially the umbee theory lmaaoooooooooooo.

I dont have the room for a monster tank but thats 5he only way im ever gonna try and mix ca's again. I am upgrading to a 180 or 210ish in the next year and im not adding kne cichlid. The pearsei might be the only cjchlid in the tanks with 3 or 4 bichirs. I added a few to my 150 and they are soooooooooo much easier to keep. I still love my ca's but my expectations are much more realistic now.

Your gonna spend money on a 125 imo same tank as a 150 just more gallon but the footprint doesnt make a 150 any better for stocking cichlids imo its a waste of a tank should be 125 then 180 but whatever. Listen to ragins advice go as big as you can...your only gonna end up going bigger later on anyway....trust me if your like most of us 1 or 2 tanks isnt enough its a constant battle to not fill up every room in the house with tanks

Buphy,

I'm getting married in 5 weeks! Congrats and good luck with all of the planning. Just smile and nod during the whole process haha.

I think you will find that the longer you keep fish, the more conservative you get with stocking. You start to get more enjoyment from good husbandry and happy fish than having more fish. I think everybody tries to keep everything at once when they first start in the hobby, its just so fun to try new species. But if you have not bred anything yet, you are missing out. Watching some mid sized cichlids working together to defend their fry is a joy to watch.

And planning is fun. I am about 5 years out from building a house and I have went through 50 different versions of my fish room.

5 weeks and 3 days (I think) for me.

I'm for sure not trying to keep "everything" at once, I'd die =P. Have plenty more on my list but these are the ones that I think pair best with one another (or so I've been led to beleive). Dream is having an office tank, master bedroom tank, game room tank, future kids bedroom tanks and a display tank dividing the living and dining room =p. As well as a planner/researcher, I'm a day dreamer =P.

i think everyone is trying to tell you no more cichlids, but they are being nice enough to let you try to figure it out for yourself. I wouldn't add anymore cichlids unless you went with a huge tank.

Well clearly nothing more now. But bigger tanks in the future and I can.

Buphy, did you put a tape measure on that wall yet? :)
