Long Overdue Collection Update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I got an endli dabola and a Faranah lap. These are pics from last night after I put them in the tank. I'll try and get some better update pictures later View attachment 1175869View attachment 1175870

Nice additions doc.

Im also interested in any differences between the dabol endli and your other endlis. Do you notice any differences between this e dabola and the one you already have ?

I really find the whole collection point variants an interesting subject. Im still only able to tell endli from lap thats about it lol. I can see the diff from the black voltas though everything else is the same until one of you point something out

I have a question about faranah vs dabola.... DMD123 DMD123 and i spoke about this a few times but i dont think we ever braught it up in the forum.

How do we know a faranah lap/endli is actually a faranah lap/endli ? These fish cant just stay in the same body of water their whole lives. Arent most of if not all of the water ways connected to the niger ? So how do we know that an faranah lap/endli wasnt born near dabola and some how migrated to a water way near faranah or vice versa. The tinkisso is connected to both areas right ?

Technically speaking it is possible for them to move around up and down the rivers. That's why it's sp. the sp. is just where its collected. So theoretically an endli could've been born in one place but is caught in another. That's why if we could get some DNA tests to clarify if there's really any big differences it would help a lot. Something else to think about is if they have food in the area why leave? If they're born in the area there's obviously favorable conditions for the parents so what's to say there's not favorable conditions for the offspring? Like I said I can't say which is true, but this is what I think.

This is kinda where it gets complicated, as i understand it, Dabola is a town just north of faranah. Both of these areas are in Guinea. Both of these areas reach into the Niger river at different points, which is where I assume our Bichirs come from. Dabola is in the red circle up top and Faranah is the bottom cirlcle, the blue line is the Niger river.

I could be completely wrong though. This is completely based off my owns observations.

Also, wouldnt wanna derail B's thread anymore. This would be a good, separate thread though for sure.

How are they settling in ?

Agreed

I haven't had a chance to look at them today. I was going to leave the lights off until I get home tonight

New dabola on the top and faranah on the bottom right ? I think the new one has darker banding.

Really like them. The lap looks great too

1st and 2nd pic is new endli dabola and new Faranah lap. 2nd and 3rd are older Faranah lap and endli dabola.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Tried to upload a feeding video of the main grow-out tank, but it never seemed to upload onto the site. Will have to get some pics as some of the smaller guys are maturing beautifully. Also picked up another tank to add to the collection. It's a 48"x12"x13". Going to try and make it a densely planted rope tank, but we'll have to see how the planting goes first lol. Right now though, I have my grow out endli in there. Contrary to what the pics show, he/she has actually put on some nice size. Still trying to work out the girth thing as feeding him with 5 silver dollars and 6 Severums didn't seem to go well in his favor, but with his new "temporary" grow out tank I'm sure it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
