View attachment 1178732 View attachment 1178733 Tried to upload a feeding video of the main grow-out tank, but it never seemed to upload onto the site. Will have to get some pics as some of the smaller guys are maturing beautifully. Also picked up another tank to add to the collection. It's a 48"x12"x13". Going to try and make it a densely planted rope tank, but we'll have to see how the planting goes first lol. Right now though, I have my grow out endli in there. Contrary to what the pics show, he/she has actually put on some nice size. Still trying to work out the girth thing as feeding him with 5 silver dollars and 6 Severums didn't seem to go well in his favor, but with his new "temporary" grow out tank I'm sure it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

There isnt an endli out there that i dont like !
What kind of substrate are you thinking of going with in the planted ? I highly recommend seachem root tabs. They last something like 3 months. Im not into fancy lighting or dosing ferts so i chose to use the tabs and man they worked great.

Didnt know you were into cichlids how big are the sevs ?

They were about 2"-3". They're a cool fish, but I just wasn't as crazy for them as Polys. I got rid of them and have the remaining ones for sale. Also didn't have enough room to seperate them into their own tanks to allow them a less carnivorous diet. Anyway, I'm thinkin about going with the garnet I have now, and adding the root tabs like you suggested. Reading up on them right now. Really wanting to have the garnet sand so I'm thinking about getting some root tabs (trying to read up on how many I would need, how often I would need to change then, and how I would change them), good lighting, as well as some basics swords and moss for now. I want to try and stay away from C02 mainly because I don't feel comfortable putting gas into the tank and also it's just another thing I would have to regulate/change out.

The tabs are great they dont need to be replaced they slowly break down into the sand so the roots cand feed/absorb them. I put one or two near each rooted plant. I would had more every 3or 4 months.

The moss is cool but too messy for me unless its tied to some dw with sowing thread. Swords, bocapa (spelling ?) Water sprite all grew like crazty with the root tabs. I didnt use any special lighting.

Heck no. I dont have any plants anymore but when i did all i used were the tabs. And did less frequent wc's also no purigen

Yeah thats what I'm thinking about doing. Just trying to figure out the lighting since this isn't the most common of tank sizes. Thinking about a 48" T-5 HO or 48"-60" Current USA LED lights.

I would gey a smaller one if your going with the satellite led. I have the 24inch on my 75 and the 48 on the 150. Really up to you though. Even if you get the 48 you can always dim it down a bit if its too much

Oh yeah forgot to mention Brazilian penny wort check it out... very versatile plant, probably my favirote. I used it planted in the substrate, wrapped around dw and free floating.

It's been a rough month to say the least. Have had a lot of personal stuff that came up so I haven't quite made any progress on the 30L. Also still trying to do research every now and then when I get the chance. I'll try and post some pics this weekend after a water change. It's starting to get really sunny in Texas and with my main tank in direct sunlight all day, there's enough algae to go around.
