21 months :screwy:? Thats nothing...

So full grown, how big is full grown? And how long is a long time? Thats the problem with those statements, they are not factual and usually bs. Just like everyone says my Oscar lived a good life, 8 years!.... please it died like half its life span early....

None of you can really say anything.... As none of you have an arowana over 24".... If you do, then you have a tank larger than a 240g... simple as that. Justification, its what society is now a days. My friends arowana is 21 years old, and theres a reason he is that old. I'd be surprised if one of you guys had an arowana for 5 years. A fish that gets easily 3ft in an 18" wide tank!? Once again, MFK is going down the hole because of people who can't give animals what they need.

No you don't need to be an expert on fish to keep them. You just need common sense and comprehension, the experts did the hard work for you. They posted a recommend tank size and still people are to stupid to figure it out...

?

On the end note, jars are different than silvers.. along with tank sizes

Ignorance is pathetic, done...
Just leave then. very simple

See this is what i mean by no value added. I am not trying to cram anything into anywhere, I am mearly looking for opinions. Allow me to answer a few things you have mentioned. That tank your friend has is not close to 400 gallons I would have to see a full shot with something to judge it ( you said it is either 30 or 36 inches, you dont even know?) I have seen 7 or 8 yeard old aros in smaller than 125 tanks that were healthy and looked great.... you stated you were new to fish keeping so i am curious where you get your VAST knowledge?
I did not want to start any petty fights just looking for info... this is a problem with this site, one reason i have been a member for several years and not so many posts..... number of posts means nothing!!!!!

Your right posts means nothing.... Other than i ask a lot of questions and actually know the well researched recommended tank size of an arowana. That tank is 400 gallons, the cats at the bottom are 28inches each... Like i said ill get the tape measure out.

Sorry Brian i did miss that, I guess you already figured it doesn't really matter. This thread is just so others can comfort theme selves, because a simple google search could have answered the question, it just wasn't the answered wanted....

8 year old arowana in a 125? Hm maybe that's why that guys healthy arowana died in 8 years after being in a 155 its whole life. No offence to the owner, just simple observations..

OK you have your opinion and I am tired of repeating the same thing over and over... your approach needs work and maybe it would carry some more weight...... I appreciate eveyone who answered even if we disagree.

I will continue to read this as long as it is not closed but i will not argue with you anymore canuck.

Personally I think the SA aros should be in no less than an 8'x3' and the Asian and jardini's should be no less than 6'x2' as adults. Honestly, you could have an aro that looks perfectly healthy in a 30 gal if you kept up with water changes but is it right? People always say "well I can't afford that big of a tank" but in my opinion if you can't, find something else, there is plenty to keep in smaller tanks.

Not that I've given up, just that I've been working all day and missed participating in most of this thread. Hard to just jump in and provide counterpoint for all the 100 plus posts of pure nonsense.

A pond is for KOI IMO and I have no plans for one anytine soon... I live in New England an ARO would never survive the winter

A post means nothing when the person who posted doesn't have any idea what he's posting, such as post about what a fish needs when he doesn't actually own or keep that fish; tell people to go to college, get a real job, when he just barely starts college, and still living with his parents; ask people to use common sense, when he didn't even use it.
Some of us here owns big tank, thus, know what it takes to get and maintain a big tank. It's great to have a big tank, but it doesn't mean others, whose tank is smaller than yours, can't keep the same fish, which you've kept in small tank until you "graduate" to the "big tank" league! Some of you guys sound like "The Rock" in the movie "Tooth Fairy!" :grinno: Just remember, if you can keep whatever fish in whatever size of tank, than someone else can and may do the same. You're not special! Even if you think you are, then share the knowledge that you think made you "special." Don't be the guy that "I can do it, but you can't!" :screwy: And if you don't know or have any knowledge, either you can learn, or you can move on... The OP is looking for information, not asking for your belief...
