Hi, I have a male cichlid that is breeding with a female cichlid, male seems to be irresponsible and not doing parental care at all. It has very bad appetite and not as active as first day i had it; it doesn't chase away fish that approaches his eggs.
Today, i threw some shrimps and it ate quite a few pieces. While feeding, it started pooping white stringly poop, which i started to concern if that caused him to have bad appetite, will aquarium salt or pimafix help?

Will 1 spoon of aquarium salt per gallon kill unhatched fish eggs?

long white stringy poop is a good sign of internal parriste. remove carbon and treat with parrisite clear or parriste away its made by jungle and should clear your fish up within 48 hrs.

If the fish is eating you're ok but I wouldn't feed your fish shrimp. Get more veggie based food in the diet. Shrimp on special occassions and right before a water change. The internal parasite is called Hexamita Intestinalis and once the fish has it it is very likely a goner. Pharmacy grade Metronidazole works and I have had some success with clout. Metro is what Conkel uses.

its my first time, i feed them grandsumo red and spirulina to my carpintis everyday. Could it be digested shrimp meal?

by the way, what caused them to have internal parasite?
I just added 6 spoons of pimafix in 75g tank, and i am unsure whether its parasite or digested shrimp, but it helps
to resist fungus attack.

how long have you had them? more than likely it had it since you got it and got it from the petstore, or any new fish that weren't quarantined first, fish can have parasites for a long time before they start to affect them, as long as he is still eating just treat with jungle parasite clear like stated already and he will be fine, i would do all three treatements just to be sure and you can also medicate his food by breaking off a small piece of meds into cup with tank water and soak their pellets for 10-15min then strain the food out, pooring medicated cup water into sink and feed them the medicated food, would do this at every feeding while the treatment is going on, also make sure to complete the treatments and not stop just because it looks like his poo is back to normal you have to ensure that all the life cycles of it in your tank are dead

I just noticed white stringy poop now, and i've had it for 6 months. Its poop was normal before, but it always had a bad appetite. It could cause by the feeder gold fish? i removed them 2 days ago.

Omg what a miracle, its black bars shown up and its finally chasing fish, Omg thank you all, i am good now.

yes that it what they got it from, feeder gold fish have very little nutrition and really shouldnt be used since in addition to low nutrition/high fat content they very often carry parasites from being housed in poor conditions during shipping and at the petstore, treat the tank and dont feed any more feeders that you havent quarantined or bred yourself (and if you have to use feeders than use like guppies or something less fattening) if you want your fish to be healthy

My carpintis didn't even chase feeder fish, feeder fish were for my peacocks, but my peacocks didn't like live fish either.
I bought 50 feeders, 40 died, rest i put them in a 10g.

Do not feed your fish feeders. Man, your asking for trouble with the shrimp and feeders. Bad bacteria floating around in there I'd bet. How often do you do water changes?
