I admittedly kept the oscar by him self in a 40b for quite some time. I had to be doing something right because that's where I nursed him back to health from the verge of death. The 40 was way too small, hence why I got the 75g.
According to my friend at the LFS the oscar was a few years old when I got him and was housed in a 55g by the previous owner who neglected and returned him. I don't know about you guys but I think 40b is a much better footprint than a 55g.
Truth be told the Oscar grew about 2" since ive had him, but I doubt he'll reach monster size, he's probably stunted
He seems very happy in the 75, he casually strolls from side to side. I can tell he really enjoys all the new space. Normally when I would move him from a tank he would "sulk" or lay there.. he did no such thing in the 75, he immediately went to checking out his surroundings and floated around.
Decor wise the tank is pretty barren, and I plan to keep it that way. Maybe some small low profile items for the jd to hide in, but I want to keep the tank open, which makes for an interesting aquascape challenge
