hmmm ya thats what driftwood does. If you like the look of it, i'd keep some soaking outside and just let rain and an occasional hosing take care of a lot of the tannins and when you run it in your tank you might need to run a little carbon, and that has always worked for me.
If it is screwing with the PH too much you probably need to buffer your water a little anyway, but thats kind of advanced so i'd just stick with not having driftwood in there for now.
