wow how many people have said they are a colour variant.....quite anoying they are not the same 1 is blue the other is black the have different body structures. also the name gives it any one is a Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum and the other is a cryptoheros sp honduran red point.so if he does breed them with a con and doesnt cull he would flood the market with crappy hybrids....why buy a breeding pair to seporate and breed with a con????!!!!!

anyone can see that they are not a variant, complete differnent species, a colour variant is like a gold jd they have the same body shape....ect as the normal jd

Nice trade bro. Although Ive been told that once cons start to breed they sorta stop growing, or just dont reach full size potential.

That's kind of what's happened with my cons. Since I got them (they bred almost instantly, obviously) my female hasn't grow a milimeter, but my male has more than doubled in size and is getting a nice meathead too.

Tell me bout it....my LFS's usually get JUNK.....gonna breed 'em for food and cool new hybrids.Obviously i can't go into the Amphilophus species too much if at all,but firecons are cool. Sorry hybrid haters.

i dont hate hybrids...that much lol no i dont some are OK i have 1 sold to be as a sajica but its a con/sajica that was anoying but i just said dont sell the fry on as it will flood the market with hybrids and not the real thing. also how do you get firecons???? you said you were going to sell them on which would flood the market and not everyone wants a hybrid as the lfs will sell them as what they look closer too.

There are only two valid fish in the genus Cryptoheros as far as I'm aware. Look.

But the Archocentrus genus is still valid. Look.

There are also still valid Chiclasoma spp. but most have changed genus. another link.

I believe most cichlids were first under the name cichlasoma.
