All good.....the young will of course be used as a food source for my X1 and FH when culling time comes......i'll keep a few to sell and breed back, see if i can't get that hump bigger.....maybe even cross him with an HRP,they got a BREEDING PAIR at another LFS out here.Sweet options.

Why would you ever cross cons with HRP? Rusty Wessel called them "Blue Cons" when they were first discovered and not classified. They aren't the same.

I just "culled" 10 HRP-Con crosses sold to me 6 months ago. I will kill the kid who sold them to me if I see him again. I wasted 6 months of grow out time not to mention the fact of tank space. To top it off, I usually cull young fish, not 8 month old grow out and not 10 at a time.

See,this is different, for two reasons, one, you were under the assumption that you wee buying HRP's,two, shame on you for not seeing the parents first to see if they were HRP's.The reason i want to breed my PINK HUMPED OUT convicts is because I,ME,MYSELF wan't HRPxPink humped out con......and if i don't like them then i'll stop.I mean maybe they'll look cool, never know. And besides,i like too hook up the neighboorhood kids with some cool hardy fish and give them a loving pet instead of killing them.

Culling to the rescue! It is totally fine that you would like a ConxHRP, however I'd advise against spreading them around. Keep the ones you want, and can house, and cull the rest. By giving them away, you're potentially "contaminating" the market, especially for those who want pure breds. I had to search long and hard for pure HRP for this reason. I never did find any around my area. If you want the kids to have a cool hardy fish, do like their parents do - buy a couple guppies and let them go wild.

By all means, get your ConxHRP and yours only. Don't supply them to people. Even if you tell them flat out they're Hyrbids, it's likely they're going to get pawned off as purebred Cons or HRP, and end up pissing off alot of people in the long run, and more than likely lower the quality of the local market.

You guys are FOOLISH saying i'll contaminate the market........How in the world do you think my con X HRP will travel backwards to a DISTRIBUTOR which is the only way ill flood the market....most LFS don't even take trade in's,let alone base their whole convict sales on them.Think first..........Made me laugh when i kept seeing the word "market",made me think, what do these guys think i sell them to distributors and then they sell to LFS:ROFL:               'S

Because I've seen it done. It doesn't have to travel "backwards". By giving them to kids, if you give more than one, there's a chance for them to breed. What do most kids do with baby fish? Same thing I used to - take them to the LFS. Most LFS I know will happily take smaller fish off of people's hands, they just don't take larger fish like grown Oscars and Pacu. Many many a time I've given back entire schools of Cardinals, 40 and 50 strong, once they served their purpose.

And it's not about "flooding". The fact is that if even one of them somehow (MAGIC or otherwise) gets back to a Distributor, and is bought for the purpose of breeding (which alot of Cons are), it's going to mess up a whole bloodline that, chances are, was met to be purebred. And then the person brings it back to the LFS and it starts again. And it's very unlikely that your conxhrp is going to be labeled or have it's own tank for "ConxHRP". It's going to get tossed into a Con or HRP tank, and sold, mis-labeled, as one of those.

And by giving them away to the neighborhood kids, what makes you assume they're going to be taken care of? Unless every kid you plan on giving them to is a hobbyist, it's not really a smart idea, unless, of course, you plan on showing up on their doorstep for a bucket and hose each week. I'd rather have one of my fish get eaten quickly or put to sleep via Clove Oil than live in horrible conditions because someone thought it was a "pretty fish".

Impossible......Convicts are not "bought back from the public" because of short demands at the breeders end........convicts are so abundant that distributors have foolproof methods of keeping bloodlines pure......and,ummmm,if it gets taken in as a trade at an LFS,which dosent happen round here much, then it will just go into another home, not to a distributor when hes MAKING PURE CONVICTS BY THE HUNDRED-THOUSAND......DAILY too!!!!!

Yea....Duhhhh...to another home.
Like one time when a LFS sold me HRP, 10 to be exact as pure because they got them from a home breeder who said as much. I think you are either slow or not being open to what people are saying. There are thousands of pure bred species of Cichlid that are very beautiful. The world does not need your basement breeding attempts at pretty fish. And then to say you will give them away??? I have no respect for you at all at this point.
