What caught my eye was that it says oscars need 30gallons min living space and that they need 55gal to breed in.

That's a site for a local store... of course they lie about tank requirements...
They say it only needs a 30 gal... so you buy a 30 gal...
3 months later you come back and buy a 55 gal...
6 months you come back and buy a 75 gal...
The lie pays off...
Which is why it's better to take advice from an experienced fish keeper who offers advice on a forum. We have nothing to loose/gain.

i also noticed that it said baby oscars strongly resemble jack demspeys... from what ive seen there is only one resemblence, their cichlids.
my bro lives near there and knows about this place. he used to say he wanted to avoid getting fish there cuz the fish dont look like they're treated right. i didnt know exactly what he meant but he used to always say if u see it then u will know. but i guess now i know haha. he ended up picking up a fish there anyways cuz he had no choices out there in the boonies of iowa, but he knows what hes doing so the fish he got is real lucky and very healthy and happy. its a jag by the way
