Look Here! I just set out my minnow trap.

Sounds like your trap should work. The cold does slow fish down and that is to your advantage. I live in Pa also and have had a lot of luck with a trout net catching small sunnies. This net is fine meshed and I attached it to a pole. These fish seem to like to hang out next to the bank in the vegetation. If you pull towards the bank with net you should be able to catch a bunch. I caught hundreds in the early spring when it was this temperature.

Come on guys be helpful i get views but no answears! Please i feel so excited lol.

Summer feeding frenzies prepare most fish for the frozen lakes and foodless months of winter. By fall, the fish have large stores of fat, which will provide the energy they need to survive the months under the ice.

this is why with Koi At temperatures less then 10 degrees celsius and over 5 degrees celsius Thats why you do not feed normal pond foods. Your fish must be fed a rapidly digestable food At temperatures below 5deg Celsius feeding should stop Lower temperatures slows down digestion which means the food can rot in the stomach and cause bacterial problems for your fish but in the wild fish slow down and don't need to feed as much, but that doesn't mean they don't feed at all. predators can be caught all year round, the winter months are when pike, perch and zander fishing really comes to the fore. Put some chopped wormes in it ;)

Thanks, so your saying that sunfish might enter or will enter but i will catch a smaller amount then usuall? I am going to pull them out in a couple of hours i will tell you what i get. But do you think anything will be in there?

Yeah i will, i will set it back in after i look at my catch... but as i asked do you think anything will be in there? It's been there a hole day....how stupid are fish not to get out lol and there will prolly be crayfish in it.

Alright i pulled it out, and i saw nothing at first, but there it was 1 little fish maybe a small little bass or chub or something else, look at my id thread and help me!

Is the trap on your land?
Watch out for poachers.

So you check the trap every 6hrs?

I just ordered 2 of these traps & am eager to try them out,
but don't know where to put them.

I don't think it's fry... I think the bas was chasing a school of minnows... North American fish do not have parental behaviors like cichlids

That's not true, many NA natives exhibit parental care. Almost all the species of sunfish guard their eggs and young (it's the males that protect them) and that includes rock bass. It's too early for them to be spawning though.

I agree with teleost, a net would be much better this time of year. IME you won't have much success getting bass into a minnow trap, some sunfish may enter it though. I have caught both bluegill and pumpkinseed in my traps. You're most likely going to get cyprinids though.

i dont think he can use a net
he said his pond was froze over
