Look @ this BIG fella ... RTC! Over 20 years old!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah but also compare the stomachs on the two fish the wild one looks a whole lot better fed

Well, since it was basically raised in a pet store, I'm sure it didn't get many large meals. You know how pet stores basically feed their fish just enough to keep them alive.

That's true, but it's obvious when an LFS practices that sort of feeding regimen, because the fish don't look so hot.

This RTC does look healthy. Stunting is a very taboo practice in the hobby; I personally don't have a big deal with it.

It's not like I tell others "sure, stunt the fish", but I'm not going to flame the guy on youtube keeping a giant gourami in a 6g either; it's not my business.

Stunting because of ignorance is one thing, stunting while providing the best you can other than tank size, I don't think it's a big deal.

Thats what I m saying, 6 feet.

61 inches is 5'1"

Stunting happens naturally do to food supply... Look at how much larger large mouth bass are in Florida compared to those of the north east. It can be seen in other species as well as animal types such as dwarf rattle snakes on islands... But there is a fine-line between stunting and starving... And you can't just deiced how large your going to keep it... a RTC is not going to stay in a 10gal tank

I love these threads because they just keep proving that not all RTC's grow into 5' monsters....OH wait.... 6' monsters. This fish looks healthy and looks to be around the 3' mark. How can that be .......:D

He's still got years left to grow. They will never quickly get to 6' I'd love to see a pic of one at 6' it would weight close to 200 lbs. or more. Not saying it isn't possible, but it would take many decades to get that size. It takes decades for them to get to 4', looking at somewhere around 5 years to get to 3' with proper care. Man I really need to get another rtc.
