While visiting a few fish joints in Charlotte last week - I came upon this big guy at Wet Pets in Gastonia, NC. Wish he was in a bigger tank, but he looked peaceful enough I guess ...

The sign read: This Red Tail Catfish was acquired in 1983. He used to live at Tropic Pets in Charlotte. He was bought with the intention of being sold, however, he was never sold and eventually came about to be sort of a novelty fish. This cat has made its journey over to Wet Pets after 23 years! He's truly a family pet now!

WOW! Tanks, I mean THANKS Terrie for lending a 'hand' ... :)

the cat looks in good health

are you sure the date wasnt 19-8-03 or not 23 months old :D

This is the best RTC I have ever seen. And as far I know it's around the 15 years old mark. All things considered, it's around 46", well fed, great colour and finnage, look at that tail....

i think that we can all agree on this... if that RTC is 20+ years old.... its growth is definantlly stunted

yup, no debating that.

lol, just realized that is my old lfs from when I was growing up in NC. lol. small world.

There's a fish store in the basement of this chinese hotel called the china house in hickory NC if anyone is ever going through that area they have an old rtc that is at least 15 years old, and is probably 40" and thick as can be. They sadly have it in a 250 gal, they also have a shark pond that is about 5000 gals in there also. They have a second rtc now as well, and some species of arius that's huge. Owner is a nice guy, but he charges extremely high prices for everything.

6 ft? na nada no! me Ol' man had a 40+ incher, and that took a few years i think around 5 or so. (i may be mistaken i was like being born at the time lol) but did not take 10-15 years. i know that for sure.

true the first one could b 23 years old, but many have said not had the biggest tank it could have had. nice anyways!
