Nice ST

Easy boys!
:lock::popcorn::lock:

ok no attacks from me but now you mention the word dont you think stateing numbers like 90% are male is also dumb

i just dug out my old hard drive and up to last year when my ST started eatting pellets it was female now it male

like i said have you ever thought that ST in captivaty may be fater because they dont burn off as much fat as wild fish thats why 90% have this fatter body shape that you say are male

then after 1-2yrs of hard core feeding fish that once looked female now look male

I'm not making attacks, Im making observations that I hope arent true.

Let me find the link, there is a thread on here were some one accidentally killed 19(I think) STs and then dissected them...ALL were males.

T1, Im not kidding you brother, I spend at least two or three hours a day on my little project. Ive talked to keepers, scientists, importers, LFS owners, hatchery managers, ect researching everything from the economic to the experimental sides of this project. I will be the FIRST to tell you I am no expert, but I am confident that no poster in this thread has spent as much time as I have researching STs. I find it odd that an accomplished fish keeper like yourself makes remarks that a person with a very basic understanding of fish biology would know is wrong, but Im still holding on to hope that those kinds of comments are you just messing with me!

I just read your edit,

You have it backwards, the tall bodied "squarer" fish tend to be female while the shorter "rectangular" tend to be male and of course things like obesity could make the fish look different and make an already difficult task of sexing even more difficult! *edit again cause I typed it backwards myself!*

i have had 2 x 12inch ST/CT that you would say 100% were male with your sexing as they were super fat and deep i had to rehome all my ST when i started the aro com as they were just to risky to put 12inch ST with 7inch aros

the tigers were in someone elses care for 2-3 months in that time they were not fed as hardcore as i would feed them when they came back they looked like totaly diffrent fish i had to look hard to make sure they were the same ST at this point they all looked like female

i will post a pic now of when i had the ST then 2-3 months later and you will see what i mean it looks like a totaly diffrent fish i will try to get some pics of when it was returned but for now hears the pic before it went away

im curious as to where is this scientific proof of sexing tigers??? from my research( wich i havent looked into them in several months) and talking to other hard core keepers arround the world there is still no way to truly sex them....

I also would like to see some source as to where some members on here are getting breeding info and sexing. The most knowledgeable person i know on Datnoides is Ivan (alfon76) and he has been keeping them for over 15 years, Though all his studies and even being a veternarian himself. He still has not been able to even come close as to sexing them or seeing there breeding rituals. The most he has seen them do is they are side to side and "shake", but they have been doing that forever he said. I want to see some evidence.

I want to know why NOW that all this info is starting to come foreward. I am staying out of all of this widebar sexing/breeding so i dont make myself sound stupid since i have not heard anything or found any info myself.

T1, no one let the cat out of the bag. I have spent hours and hours researching STs and I remember seeing that pic.

Also T1, for such an accomplished fish KEEPER, you have to be the most ignorant person I know. You say things that are so dumb, that sometimes I give you the benefit of the doubt and think you are just acting dumb. For example, fish, like most all animals change as they sexually mature.

Please tell me comments like that are you just trying to mess with me and that you really arent that dumb. I always looked up to your collection and fish KEEPING skills, but sometimes I really doubt your overall knowledge of fish themselves.

i have to agree, i left out my views on MFK because of his silly comments and shallow mind.

i told quite a few Thai ST and CT fanatic friends to view this web and they had similar comments eventhough their language was not as good as mine but they had the same views.

i guess 8-10 years of just seeing pics or having a couple CT's cannot qualify him for being good (fisheries friends who specialies in Dats still has some dats that we cannot even distinguish yet whether it is ST or CT decendants until today and sex up until 6 inches in size) we people here in Thailand including me whom i know have kept for over 10 yrs and well over in the 100 of them each ranging from 1cm to over 25 inches don't even boast. at the end of the day we people here don't keep or love the best looking ones or ones that have appearances of the extinct Thai ST because having the best doesn't mean being the best which is what i think T1 is trying to be in this forum or the western side of the world but it is your LOVE for them that counts, no matter what it looks or has a full belt or necklace. every DAT has their personaility but there is always one in the tank that we are tied to most, no matter how perfect or low grade it looks. that is called soulmate.

so lets be happy showing how much we take care of these fishes adn how much we like them rather than proving who knows them best or has the most perfect fish heh?

don't forget that these are living things, perfection doesn't make them immortal so buying perfect ones and selling low grade ones just for the sake of perfection doesn't make one better but more like a sinner.

sorry to be a reverend on you and losing the topic of this thread all but DATS here are bought and kept well into their second generation now, way long before it became pets (we used to eat them as a famous delicacy). this message is written on behalf of my friends and myself that we are happy that not just asians are interested in them but lets hope that they are kept with dedication and love not just the seeking of perfection.
