where my cichla are
ok.. i think it's closer to the time when folks might be around to give me some ideas and answer my questions.

bump.

id get 2 of the first ones.

Costs 10$ extra to run 200watts less, and then if one pump fails you can still have a back up...just plumb it correctly.

Hey check these out .I am putting a 675GL together ,I saw that you posted in the cicla section i assume you have cichla and or then your gonna want flow and alot of it at a decent price very reliable and as low amperage as possable ...I had a reeflow hammerhead used for main filtration and want more flow still so i bought this pump W Lim Wave pump the smallest they have of this type at 1/15 But it puts out 3000 gph at only 1.3 amps also uses an Emerson spa pump for this small one the larger ones use Baldor a quality Moter Any way check out there product line quality built ...And amercan made to boot...:D

I think you first need to decide what turn over rate you want depending on what you're stocking. Cichlas are messy so you may want a higher rate. I plan on 3000gph on my new 225g. Hulon I believe is doing 9000gph on his new 675g. I know a lot of people prefer to turn a lot less. It's what ever you feel is best.
The first pump you suggested does 1900gph at 6.5ft head (175W).
The second does 4300gph at 5 ft head (430W/3.7amp).
Wave 1/4HP does 6228gph at 4 ft head (330W/3amp).
The idea is to get the flow you need with the least amount of watts/amps. If you run two of the first pump you get 3800gph which will cost you 350W.
I got lazy so I didn't extrapolate the head pressure for each pump to get it at the same pressure for a true comparison but you get the picture.

no, i don't have a pic of the tank yet.. it's actually still in the storage place unassembled. we're moving it home next weekend, weather permitting (it's Southern CA, it only rains when ya don't want it to).

the sump is fully assembled and has to be moved intact.. i'm gonna need an army of guys for that. as far as the tank, each individual piece of glass is 3/4" thick and the bottom is 1" thick tempered glass (only the bottom glass is tempered) that is predrilled for center overflow.

the guy is giving me all of the plumbing and the stand with it, he's also giving me a trickle filter full of bio balls (of course he tells me this AFTER i buy 100 bio balls.. lol).

i saw the lumber in the back of the storage space, but couldn't really tell the design of the stand. depending on what it is and how well it's built i may end up going in a whole different direction with the stand.

i saw a co2 system in the storage space too, but i don't know if he's going to throw that in also.. i guess we wait and see..

yes, i keep cichla.. bet ya couldn't guess from my signature.. lol. i have a LOT of cichla, a couple silver arowana, a few bichers, 2 snooks, a BGK, a CK and 3 red jewels, and 2 synodontis petricola (that for obvious reasons don't live with the big fish).

hulon and ken, i'm intrigued by the wave pump with the specs you posted. can you please give me more info? i'm not necessarily opposed to submersible pumps heating the water, my house is cold inside because there is always a door or a window open, having to spend less money to keep the aquarium warm enough for the cichla may be a good thing.

thanks Hulon. i'll definitely check it out. :headbang2

ok, a decision has been made.. i checked out the wave pumps, they are GREAT.. but they are also out of my price range.

i checked Grainger and McMaster Carr and i found one at McMaster Carr that looks pretty good for $162. but then i started reading the electricity use vs. water output. and when it's all said and done the one i was looking at originally on ebay is the one i'm gonna go with. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

thanks for all your help guys, i really appreciate it.
