Looking for a bowfin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did not know that. Any idea why since they are native?

Well, they are not native, they are an invasive species along the potomic, specifically snakeheads. The regulations cover all bowfin. Up to a 20,000 fine when found keeping one in captivity, in fact, you are supposed to kill any on sight. DNR takes it quite seriously.

Its what happens when irresponsible fishkeepers let hardy fish into the wild. Quite unfortunate it has turned into what it has.

Dont **** with DNR, haha.

Are you serious? They are most definitely native to VA. Do you not know the difference between bowfin and snakehead?

Apperently not. I thought they were synonymous to be honest.

Sorry about that.

It's cool man sorry for getting a little out of hand with the rude comment. Lol

No worries at all, I'm embarrassed I didn't know the difference. I suppose I have heard snakeheads referenced as bowfins in the past and just always associated the two. With that said, I shouldn't have commented on something I was clearly ignorant to.

Sorry for the de-rail.

I can see how that happened. There are often times signs that show the difference between the two so anglers will know which they need to dispose of so as not to kill bowfin needlessly. So you've probably heard their names together multiple times and just mixed it up.
