Looking for a bowfin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Loop hole in pa law, you can buy live crawdads from certain good fish mongers the only problem is usually you have to buy at least a lb. also you can collect crawfish if you have a valid fishing license. Legally you're supposed to pull the heads off and kill them if you're gonna use them as bait in waters other then ones you take them from though

I was unaware of this change in the regs until I read Oddball's link. Very interesting. I don't ever collect crayfish or use them as bait, but that is interesting that you can still buy them. I guess they are worried about the rusty crayfish spreading more?

To be honest, I wasn't too sure of the actual regulations until I saw Oddball's link. A while back I overheard the owner of my LFS talking about crayfish after someone asked him if he can order them one of the "Blue Lobster" crayfish, he basically said that it was illegal to be in possession of any live crayfish in PA and I never really looked into it.

I actually ENCOURAGE keeping/breeding Bowfin in PA since so many are getting killed for no reason since people are too dumb to educate themselves on the difference between Bowfins and Snakeheads.

Rock on, Guys!!

....aside from the snakehead confusion,I have read that anglers kill the bowfin because they have no use for them or they just don't like them.Kind of like what goes on with gar in some areas.

yea it's sad, dude....so much ignorance out there....I think we should have a test you have to pass to get your fishing license just like driving, but that will never happen.

Yes it is very sad....at the very least I think the authorities could post informative literature regarding such fish at locations where fishing licenses are obtained.

lol you mean like at WAL-MART? Good luck. I have yet to meet anyone in the Sporting section that knows much about fish or fishing in general. They are so inexperienced I had PAFBC stop and ask to see my license last month and told me it needs to be signed for it to be valid, so he gave me a pen and I signed it for him. Then I said, "Well what do you expect when you get your license from WAL-MART" and he replied with a series of remarks about how they are always visiting Wal-mart and warning them about stuff and going to start handing out fines and citations for not following the PAFBC state laws. I said "Be my guest, maybe you can get them to actually pass out the FREE Rules & Regulation Handbook that is mandatory with license purchase......you know, the one that's required by law to be given to everyone?"

He just lowered his head and shook it back and forth as they went along to continue their rounds. And we wonder why we always see ***holes keeping fish out of season, undersized, over creel limits, etc etc

People can't even pick up up their damn used fishing line. it's pathetic how people and pigs have so much in common
