Looking for a little SA aggression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I went to Mike's Cichlids in New Symrna, FL. It's this awesome fish farm with a ton of cichlids available.

Anyways, I picked up some more aggressive small SAs and some similar aggression CAs (in other words, pretty peaceful for most CAs LOL).

Archocentrus panamensis sp. "red" 1m/2f
Australoheros sp. "red ceibal" 1m/2f
I couldn't believe the color on these guys when Mike pulled them out of the water. Absolutely gorgeous. I will post some pics after they are acclimated and settled in. :)

I was going to recommend panamensis. I have 5 and they are great looking with lots of personality.

I was about to leave with my 3 red ceibals when he asked if I was interested in a similar fish he had recently acquired. He asked if I had heard of red panamensis. I asked to see them. My jaw dropped when he pulled them out of the pond. Drop dead gorgeous pink coloration. Did a quick search to find out their ultimate size and basic requirements so it wasn't a completely blind purchase. Then I asked for a trio without even knowing their price. LOL

Nice job making a thread title that near guarantees viewers click on it. (Not sarcastic). That said, the fish desriptions you write of are not compatible with SA\CAs at that tank size in my opinion. Certainly not for their total lifetime.

Which ones? The ones I just acquired or the ones I was asking about (pike, salvini, etc)?

And thanks about the title. Of course it's the goal of all thread creators to try and get as many people to read and assist them. :)

These are the pictures of my new Red panamensis and Red ceibals.

Lol why do you keep calling them red panamensis last time I checked they are all red.

Very nice fish by the way. Wish I could some panamensis that size.

Thank you. I really love their color. Going to love breeding these guys.

Up until these panamensis, I have only kept SA cichlids. I was unaware there was only a red version of the Archocentrus panamensis since the fish farm labeled them A. panamensis "red". After doing some more digging I found out that they might actually be Crytoheros and not Archocentrus. Seems to be a little confusion on what their proper genus should be. Either way, thanks for the correction. :)

It's been reassigned to Cryptoheros. It used to be Archocentrus but several species were reassigned. All the pictures and videos I've seen of them show similarly colored fish, so the "red" label is probably more of a selling point than anything.

Some locations show more red than others. I prefer locations names myself, makes it easier to find more if you need them.
