In terms of the Vieja species, my top choices would be Argentea or Zonatum. However I still have interest in Motaguense and "Black Nasty." Which would be the best choice and why?

I just thought I'd bring this thread up again because I just got a new royal green terror (about 6 inches) This makes my current stocking list for my 120 gallon: 1 cobra pike, 1 green terror, 1 striped raphael cat. I was wondering if I could put another medium to large sized cichlid in with my current stock. Would I still be able to get a Vieja Zonatum, or Argentea, or would that be overstocking. These are just my ideas, what kind of cichlid would you guys recommend?

How big is your cobra pike? Also, I would stay away from a breeding pair, if that's what you meant by a pair of mota's. Pretty much any breeding pair of cichlids will get very nasty.

I don't think you'll have to get a particularly nasty fish to hold it's own against the pike. Most cichlids have powerful jaws (their main defense in a fight). Pike's jaws are not as strong. They tend to be very large and designed for gulping, not grappling.

My pike is about six inches. The green terror is about six inches too. I don't really want mota's anymore, but I am still interested in the Vieja species, or anything esle that might work.

a breeding pair of convicts can be crzy:screwy:

sometimes the male will hit the larger fish from the top then the female fom the bottom and then the male then female and just keep goin til the other fish leaves. but that is only when they are breeding and when the other fish gets to close to the fry/eggs
