looking for a red fish

I'm not sure if its red enough for you, but a red headed geophagus would work very well with the temperament and water params that you're working with.

I actually have two groups of 6 each but they are in other tanks...

YES! Will probably go with them - look a bit weird but really red!

I just picked up a f0 chocolate at my LFS for $12. Beat that! I know peathenster get's fish from Ken all the time though I'm totally jealous but there's a few pretty good fish stores near me.

I agree, you dont find any fish that has more red than an incisus, be sure to get some females too (they are not red, more like olivegreen), females brings out the red on the males.
In nature they breed on early mornings so if you feed them bloodworms the males will show you incredible colours every morning.

If you have any Geophagus sp. red bahia in your area, that could be another candidate.
