Hello. Since you like arowanas but size is an issue have you considered the African butterflyfish?
Their profile looks just like an arowana but their size is around 4 to 6 inches the most. They usually stay at the top of the tank and prefer floating plants. They usually sell at pet shops for under $10. A covered tank is a most with them. Good luck to you.

I always thought they were more towards the top but in that case I'll still keep looking, especially after the posts about aggression towards dats, I'd much rather keep the dats.

Actually archerfish are pretty good you could also get african butterfly fish, they're related to arowanas but these 2 are probabaly too small for what you're after.

have to get everything by mail here, theres one small lfs but he cant get much and doesnt know about anything but the basics. and lexington is pretty much a bust, no good stores there. Is there anything good in louisvile, might be worth the drive.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. Although I just sold one of mine @4" to a local mfk member for $20.
