Looking for black sand

i got tahitian moon sand from amazon, free shipping. 2 20lbs bags but the vendor ozbo is unreliable..

I've got some of the black sand they sell at petco. It's actually really good stuff. It's bigger grains and not too light. It doesn't get stirred up in the water column. When I added it to the aquarium it just went straight to the bottom and was pretty clean. I think it's 17.99 per 20 lb bag.

Isn't blasting sand full of iron?

and coal slag, people used it with no problems tho but i'd be worried..

hey anarekist, I was wondering if you ordered the F (finer) or Q (rougher) grade when you got the red sand. I am strongly considering going with the red sand in my 180 because I think it would really complement the black stand as well as the black painted background.

While I'm asking, how many lbs of sand do you think I'd need for a 180? I know the general rule of thumb is 1lb per gallon, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks!

if you want black sand you cant go wrong with tahitian moon, was very happy with it and its true black and very soft downside is they are on pricey side but hey you got to pay to play :D

i bought the finer one, the thing with spectra quartz tho is that it clings to air bubbles with you first put it in the tank, it made weird egg looking spectacle in my tank. took awhile to settle but once it does it doesnt cling to bubbles anymore, prolly something to do with static. i would start off with just one bag for your 180, then order more if you're not happy with the amount.

No need to worry, I keep it as well in my dirted tank as a CAP.

Thanks man. No vacuuming/cleaning issues with the finer grade then? I made the mistake of using play sand in my 90, and it's just too fine. I used pool filter sand in my 55 and I'm very happy with it, I just think red would look totally bada$$ in my 180.
