Hello!

Thanks for the responses. Are most of these fish that are kept by folks here relatively small Wels catfish (as in, I'm sure they'll get bigger, but for now they are small)?
mkman, that's a great looking fish! How big is it now?

I'm going to find out what size works for what we're trying to do, but I am guessing the vendors mentioned carry smaller ones as well, correct?

Thanks again!

The wels at Hunstanton SeaLife Center (Norfolk) in the UK is about a meter long if you're still looking for a large one (i've never managed to get a good picture, sorry, it dwarfs the rtc and tsn that's in with it) all the others i've seen here have been small.

wels catfish are had to find in the US and any that have come in are usually baby wels. Mine is about 1+ ft now. I got it when it was about 5-6 inches/

Hello again!

Yeah, I can see how the U.S. is not the easiest place to get a big Wels. UK definitely sounds like the best place to go but I think we finally found one in Germany, which is closer to our shoot.

For those of you interested in seeing the show, we anticipate its completion to be sometime around the end of January and it should air within a month or so from then.

Thanks again for all the help, and happy monster fish keeping!

habib, what size is the one in Germany??? Wels are very hard to find in the US so of course you won't find a large one and like I said, only a handful in the US even have one.

There are several aquariums in Germany where you can find even comparably large wels. For example at the Aquarium of the Berlin Zoo, at the Wilhelma Zoo at Stuttgart or the Zoo Straubing. All of them have comparably big ones. If I remember correctly those of Straubing and Berlin were the biggest ones. But I was at Straubing about 6 years ago, so I don´t know how it looks there at the moment. But the two wels at Berlin (one is an albino) are doing quite well, and I have seen them just at the beginning of the year. I remember there was also at least a small one at the Zoo Schönbrunn near Vienna, but I am not sure if they had also a big one. For some reason there seems to be nearly nowhere really large wels over 2m in aquariums. I am sure there are also several other zoos at Germany which have a wels, but I can only tell from the zoos I know.
