I have never kept dwarf compressiceps, but from what I understand they are more of a tropical species, with an optimum temp range 75-80"F, pH on the low side (5 to just below 7) although aquarium bred individuals may be more tolerant.
Without personal experience, I defer to others to others that have kept them.
The Crenicichla I kept were wild caught saxitillus from Uruguay, and I kept them on the cool side most of the year, although in summer my tanks would hit low 80s'F.
