IN YOUR HEAD
she is a small girl at 5' and 100lbs. looking to get her a semi auto. not sure what caliber i should go with. she has never shot before and this will just be for target/potental home defence. i don't want her to get scard of them so i don't want to get to big of one for her. any ideas?

after some research and advise i am getting a s&w 460 so i feel it is only fare she can have a handgun aswell. i was leaning on semi-auto due to the recoil fact since she has never shot a gun before and she wants a handgun.

Personally, as a female I prefer 9mm's. It's the gun I learned to shoot with and very accurate.

You could take her to the shooting range so she'll feel comfortable handling and shooting it.

ok, i was thinking about 9mm, but i wasn't sure if there was a better round prefurence to start with other then a .22.

she'll be at the range alot. i want her to be well adjusted to the gun she gets. she isn't into hunting or fishing so this will give us both something to do together. also the more she shoots the more i shoot and i love to shoot.

How about something that shoots a .380 ACP?

my buddy has a .380 and he was saying the ammo was expensive and hard to find. have you noticed this? as i like the round.

Well it definitely isn't as common as 40 cal, 9mm, 45 ACP, etc....but a lot of places carry at least a box or two. My father has the same problem with 10mm. His solution: buy a box or 10 every time he comes across it. And it's always a good idea to hold on to your brass. Some time down the road you may consider reloading it if your wife enjoys shooting it at the range.

FN F57. Great gun, 5.7 is a awesome round.....course you would prob end up using it more than her. lol

you wont regret it. I bought one when I was still SF. the 5.7 round is one of my favorites plus i can share ammo with my ps90. Overall its the best handgun I have ever used.
