Looking for help ID my new friend

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well, it is certain that it's a pygocentrus nattereri, as they age the red will go away and also depends on how well it was kept the color could have lasted longer or fade away much sooner.
from what I can see based on the updated pictures that it does have a case of gill curl, you can see the soft membrane is curled up leaving the gill exposed. as long as you keep water clean hopefully it will not get any worse.
the way the lower jaw look may be result of injury, as long as it's not hindering the feeding it's just an cosmetic issue.

Almost looks like a pacu+rhom..... definite neglect in the past. Not sure who would intentionally do that to a fish's flesh to show teeth...!

Fins are also in very poor shape. My guess it was improperly housed with non compatible fish or the water quality was so poor it just stressed the shoal to the point of aggression which led to gill curl!

×Go S. Vettel #1 Infiniti Redbull! 4x WDC!!! Congrats on another flawless title×

Cheap way to decrease nitrates and keep your fish healthy: http://monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=504763

I did the 30% water change yesterday 18 hours ago and test and all ok.

test tonight showed nitrates at 60ppm ammonia .25ppm. I'll do another water change 50% tomorrow am and will clean out the gravel. He's eating still spitting out the fish fillets but now going back to eat them all over 2 hours. Seems to be less crap in the tank. But I think it is now time to look at the fifilter guys I have a problem. I think this is a home made tank. I can't find the filter. So what I've done is photographed tank apparatus. Can you see a filter? Nothing looks like you tube videos.

Hope photos loadedimage.jpg

The pump cacalled a pond master NKII

there are 3 PVC pipes running at the back of the tank behind and artificial stone wall. Is the filter the gummed up thing sticking out of the wall next to the grass?

Here a picture of back of tank. It's against the wall so hard to photo. It's a reall mess of algae and stuff behind the fake wall where the pipes are. The thing sticking out of the wall must be the filter. Fantastic ill need to get a piece of Perspex to fence off fish before I put my hand into wrestle with this gadget. The new long arm grabber I thing I got to pick up food scraps won't cut it.

Any ideas. Do I just wrench the thing out of the wall? Should probably tune the pump off while I do this it could end up like a bath tub emptying otherwise? Starting to have images of myself head first in tank with Fish Face eating my eyeballs. Would make for a great inquest

Ok first picture is a heater (sorry for dumb questions bur dont seem to be able to read fast enough.. Looks disgustingly dirty. Does MFK have any kind of rescue fish support clubs locally. I know this sounds insane. But I'm not working and donated equipment like heaters would be appreciated and they might be the kind of thing that people upgrade and the old one just sits around

Ok nitrate this morning at 70ppm. Doing a 40% water change now. Filter is just an outlet cover?? Does this tanks even have a filter? Fish Face cool about the hand in the tank. I think he knows im on his side even if i am clueless. Can hear his thoughts. " Dont **** up. dont **** up. Please don't **** up...". Cleaning out gravel.

Funniest thing. I was down to the last scoop of gravel and the two tiny "fish friends" were hovering over the top of the last pile. You could almost hear them "On no! What do we do? Jump in the net jump in the net." They were so exposed they then spent the next hour wiz zing around the tank. Very fast. Gravel and fake grass is back now and they are much more relaxed.
