Have moved him to white fish fillets. He's not ver impressed but will persevere. I've got to say that I'm pretty amazed about his previous owners and people in general who don't access the huge amount of info out there. I'm 50 so grew up going to the library if I wanted to know something or do an assignment. I've recently gone back to school with a whole stack of 20 year olds. I'm the only one who comes to class with an iPad and none of em do any online research at home either. I also spend a fair amounts of time explaining to my 15 year old that the little piece of plastic with lights that you can tap with your fingers answers questions too... Are there any others on this site that are amazed by people not learning when there is so much access to information?

You sure your testing correctly? To get zero nitrates with 40% wc is kinda not possible if I'm not mistaken.

You know the moment I read your message I went "oh yeah..." I did do math at school...I did get thrown out a lot.
Nitrate test now puts water at 100ppm.
Went through another water change nitrate around the 50ppm mark. I think I forgot to shake the **** out of the test tube after adding drops. Thanks for pointing this out to me. Much appreciated. Cheers
Well the next thing on the eg ends after the bleeding gums scare was cleaning the cannister filter. I've been told I have an eheim cannister and diligently watched YouTube and sort advice from fish shop and tonight decided to give it a go. Fail. The cannister is 3 times the size of the ones on the YouTube videos. I can't detach it and it seems to be built into the tank housing. I tried loosening the top and slowly letting water come out. After about 15 litres I gave up. I'm going to have to hire the fish tank guy.
