Can anyone comment on water make-up. I recently brought home what I later learned was a Silver Dat and tried to introduce him to freshwater. He had been in a brackish tank at the LFS, and the help there cautioned me on the change. Well, he lasted 11 days.(RIP)

I see posters all the time who claim to have Dats in tanks with freshwater fish. Do some species of Dat fare better than others in fresh? I am dying to add one to my community aquarium. (I had the 3" Silver in a 30g grow out tank.) Is there hope?

I have New Guinea, Widebar and Thinbar Dats in fresh with no problems. I think Silvers are the only ones that require brackish.

Thanks, Deathcurl! That's encouraging news. Now all I have to do is find one of those. The Silver I stumbled upon was the first dat I'd seen in the Chicago area in many years. I think I need some luck to come my way. (The fish I see on Aquabid are priced a tad high for a "sight unseen" buy, in my opinion.)

Most commen tankmates with datnoids are arrows, rays, bichirs, and catfish. I wouldent go crazy with tank mates as it will slow their growth and even might stunt it.

Datnoids make great tankmates for many monster fish.

I have never really had any problems getting datnoids onto prepared foods.

All datnoids except the silver datnoid will go fine in full freshwater.

I feed my tigers smelt, beefheart and krill. I found that smaller tigers really like bloodworm.
