Looking for Little Killers...lol.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seems no matter how big bluegill get they can't catch a break. I've found foot long bluegill (alive) on the shore that I had to push back in. Swam off just fine. A guy I knew caught a big male about the same size with a scar from a muskie bite on its side (at least I assume it's a muskie since that's what's in my lake)
hahahaha....I was SOOOO mad...I have a tank of coppernose and had never seen one before...companies in FL do dumb **** and this one here in FL had a little canal (deadend) that they wanted to remove...to make more room for parking, even though it was STOCKED full of fish by the hotel who onwed it priot. they wanted to bulldoze everything (and did eventually) but, my friends and I got at least 100-200 fish each (so like 2000+) out of there before we went one day to find it filled with dirt. I got 50ish bluegill, 50is jade sleeper gobies, and 100-200 tilapia. It's also the time where I gained 15 tanks in 1 summer and my GF nearly murdered me in my sleep...lol. This was my rig to bait them up and these are some of the coppernose and jade sleepers 1688937056269.png1688937110402.png1688937237908.png1688937260749.pngI got.1688937024208.png

I also knew a guy down there who'd find little drainage ponds full of vieja and severums, catch as many as he could out every once in awhile, and sell them off as a side hustle. Every now and then he'd have to hop ponds cuz someone would rat him out and get the pond dredged.

Agreed. Humans are the worst...lol.

What is the smallest aggressive freshwater predator fish with the smallest tank size requirement that would eat live food? or have that killer instinct?

No, I will not be putting a largemouth in a 5 gallon or something dumb...lol....

Like 30/55 is what I have to work with....for now....I am trying to learn about new species or ones that have slipped my mind.

It can be anything...store bought, online, or even locally caught (I'm in FL), etc. like bass, bluegill, warmouth, perch, mayans, tilapia, catfish, etc.

I am fairly knowedgeable about these species though, and am asking for suggestions that are outside the box....I would still like/take any of these suggestions as I am making a list (and have posted in the FB group as well) but, wanted to ask here for starters. Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Sieve Cichlid (Chiapaheros grammodes), also known as the Mini Dovii Cichlid
Minimum tanks size 75 gallons

Apparently we are running with a 30 here

Ok....to clarify a bit more:

I have a dumb friend who wants something cool and aggressive that he considers NOT GIRLY like a betta or a guppy...he wants the visual show of "eating feeder fish" that if moved from the 30 to a 55, he can breed a pair.

What is the smallest aggressive freshwater predator fish with the smallest tank size requirement that would eat live food like rosies, or goldfish or whatever...not live food like microscopic brine shrimp...lol...?

well… you can get a baby Oscar but it will need to go the 55 or more after it outgrows
(Oscar’s are pretty aggressive and predatory and cool looking also very smart but will outgrow and depends on the Oscar but they can be somewhat nice do pick an aggressive one also they are very Hardy against ammonia and nitrates/ nitrites and low o2 so pretty good for a newbie fish keeper) you probably know what Oscar’s are but here’s some pics also only 1 Oscar

Please don't tell this guy to put an Oscar into a 55-gallon aquarium. I suspect that whatever fish he gets will face plenty of challenges in its life without adding more by jamming it into such a small tank.

It was just a suggestion and I did say it would need more ( I didn’t mean it long term) like that 100 gallon that they offered
