Looking For My Monster

O.K. so I exaggerated a little about my friends changing their phone numbers. I just didn’t want to keep asking for help all the time. Here is what I got in my car without anyone’s help. The three garbage cans go in the back seat. Two of the 20 gallon totes go in the front seat. One 20 gallon tote goes into the trunk with eight five gallon bottles. That left just enough room for me. I have a cup holder in the front seat of the car and I though about putting another glass of water there! The only bad thing was that the center garbage can did not have a lid. I put on my four way flashers and made my first trip. I had to dip out the water because they were too heavy to lift. It took me an hour to unload the first trip I made.

buy a small trailer from farm and fleet, buy a tote from a indrustral paint company before they use them. these totes are big plastic bins with square tubing they hold either 250 or 275 gallons each. just put the tote on the trailer

Do you have a menards by you? You could rent a pick-up for the day and I bet it'll make your life easier from have to maneuver all those containers into your car.

Damn that is going to be so sweet. You can do such killer rockscaping and cave building in that thing. Have fun and please post pics when you get the live rock set up.

Thanks for all the Ideas for transporting water. By the time I read them I had already made four trips with this stuff. I may look into a tote from a paint co. later. It would be good for storage. Also "SteveR" I know they are a little daring for a gentleman like myself, but sometimes one must just toss caution to the wind. They are a little wild!

The first news is good. The tank doesn’t leak! When we add more water and the overflows fill up one starts to leak. The overflows are very sturdy and we are able to drain the water out of it without having to empty the main tank. It holds about 20 – 25 gallons. We took out both bulkheads on one side and filled them with silicon. My arm was not long enough to reach the bottom of the overflow but we somehow got it. There was also a third hole that had a plug in it. We did not touch that as it looked OK.

We refilled the overflows and found no leaks. All seemed well till we climbed under the tank for a final inspection. There was a slow drip coming from the other overflow. For some unknown reason the other overflow had one of the pipes caped off. There was only one working overflow. We drained that side and gave it a new silicone seal. When we refilled the tank we still had a leak. It was from the top of the one that was capped off. It was leaking from around the cap. I drained it again. This time I removed the capped pipe and put in a plug with LOTS of silicone. This time there were no leaks in the overflows when they were refilled.
