I was thinking about getting a fx5 for my 150 and maybe 2 more for my 300 gal build i am doing .. i am not dead set on the fx5 so if someone has a better suggestion i am willing to listen .. but the real question is .. where can i buy them and where can i get the best price ??

I've notice some fish stores will carry them.. FX-5... but not cheap.... $350- $250.... sometimes even $400...

Try Ebay... or wait and get one used on MFK.....

If u want other compareable filter.. Try EHEIM 2260 or 2262 but its slightly expensive.... I like EHEIM tho..

IMO, your selection of a single FX5 for the 150 and 2xFX5s for the 300 is dead on. I have precisely this set up and it has served me very well, been easy to service and was quite affordable. All things considered, I view the FX5 as the optimal canister filter for large tanks. Generally, ebay is the best place for deals on the FX5.

yea i think its the best for what i have .. i have a px3 for the 150 right now .. and would like a little more .. and i am thinking that the px3 will go on the 55gal grow out tank after i get the fx5's and wont need the over the back any longer

If you want good quality, get the 2260. If you just want a big filter, and don't mind that it's cheaply made, get the FX5. Both will work fine, one will just outlast the other by years.
