Beachmade it is... Thanks. Spend little more for good knife. I need it to be under 3"... That is what is legal under California law.

I honestly haven't owned a Benchmade so I can't comment on them from experience, but I have heard great things about them. I personally have a Buck Rush that is a great everyday knife that has a very sharp blade. The blade is less than 3" (I needed one less than that to carry on campus) and it has a spring assisted opening mechanism that makes one handed opening a breeze (but check Kommiefornia laws on assisted opening knives)

Really? That kind of sucks.

I know that switchblades are illegal across the board in the U.S. for all but certain EMS, military, police, etc. personnel, but I didn't know that you guys can't have assisted opener knives in CA. Those assisted opener knives were designed and created to go around the switchblade classification by requiring some pressure to be put on the blade in order to open the knife rather than just pushing a button as one would in the case of a switchblade.

If your are openning boxes with your knife use the back of the blade. The glue on most tapes will corrode the blade's edge.

Nope, automatics are legal here in Florida.:D

For suggestions, Benchmade makes a really nice knife but they are also really pricey. I used to have an Osborne that I loved but it was $220 so I usually dont recommend BM. I prefer Cold Steel, because I like some of their designs, the price is generally good, and every one of them I've owned (even the $5 own) has been completely awesome.

Oops, I forgot to mention Cold Steel. They make some pretty good knives for the most part, but some of their knives can be pretty expensive or just plain too big.

I have had a Kershaw onion for over a year and have only needed to sharpen it once. it is a thin knife with a strait blade. very light and easy to open with one hand

Kershaw!! I have a Tanto Blur that i have beat up pretty bad and still is in awesome working condition. Ive had it for about 3 or 4 years now and the spring assit is still plenty strong and the lock is positive.
