The best way to keep interest in anything is to add a little 'spice' perhaps the fish could dress up in a French maid costume ! !

I agree you don't need an MD as a psychiatrist, but should see an PHD as a psychologist. Your burnout could derive from disorders and gonna get worse if the situation or attitude is not improved. Good luck.
If you want free professional help/advice you can call Dr. Laura on a radio show. I think she is the best.

I like gadgets. No matter what kind or what for. I always find myself tinkering with something.
I suppose, in a way, I really wasn't into my fish for a couple of months, but I kept thinking of how I could change something somewhere. I ended up deciding to change the way my tank looked. When I set it up, I did the basic and really liked it, but as with everything else, it got old and "regular". I found it extremely refreshing even just finishing a little corner of the tank and getting some smaller additions to the colony and now find myself wanting to do more and spend more time at the tank.
I think having multiple hobbies is a must. Devoting all my energy and brain thoughts to one wears me out and the hobby seems to fade slightly. I jump on another hobby and seem to find rejuvination.
I have fish, dogs, computers, the lil lady, and a house with a ton of projects. The fish are cool and I assure you that once someone who hasn't seen your tanks comments and compliments your setup, you'll get right back into it with a revived enthusiasm.
I don't ever give up hobbies, I just put them on the back burner when they seem to be monotonous.
Good luck
