if you were nearer i have a 10 gal extra. good luck! :) Honestly I never knew pH can do so much damage to arowana's fins, until i saw it happen to my friends arowana and he told me what happened. Enjoying the beach too much and picking corals is good, but don't put it in you tank. Just a precaution.:)

Thanks for the offer. I'm with you on that ph thing. I had no idea. All of the other fish in my tank are very healthy.

in my part, the pH of the tap water is in the mid 8.0 range and almost as hard as the water in an african cichlid tank. My Silver arowana has lived and thrived in this water her whole life. id also like to add that i have aragonite substrate in my tank.

this has nothing to do with high pH from coral, A silver arowana will thrive in high alkaline water.

not all arowana can handle that much. as i said, my shared knowledge came from my buddy who did put corals (unknowing to him) and did the same thing to his arowana... to consider his arowananas were more than 2 feet and bigger. and there were three of them. maybe you're arowana was able to adapt to the situation. :) then again, i might be wrong but better square out every inch you can to pin-point the problem.

here is a quick link....

look at the pH they live in... i'm not going to make a statement anymore, i don't want this to end up like the one on the other thread about "illegal fish". so I will not comment anymore from this point on this specific thread.
Good luck on healing the arowana and I wish you get him back to tip top shape and see him big someday.:)

Wow quite the debate, my recomendation do as Del says Isolate and full dose of Melafix and primafix. When My aro was 5-6" he was in with my discus, several times he received full doses of mela and prima both, he was uneffected.

As far as pH being the problem this is crazy. there is no way this is the cause. You think Del has some special aro that can magically with stand the high pH? No, All aros are adaptable to a wide pH range.

My arow seems to be loosing fins. The other fish in the tank are not aggressive towards each other. The aro lives with a 10 inch clown knife, 7 inch Dempsy and a 10 inch common pleco....

Any ideas? here is a pic along with the clown knife for the hell of it... thanks!

Remove the clown knife and dempsy and observe again if the finage of the aro will grow back. I suspect it's either the clown knife or the demspy is doing this to the fella.
