Losing Fins... pics included.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright. The Ph is perfect. Amonia is at perfect levels as well. My LFS guy who raises Aros said it is probably bacteria. I bought some meds for the tank. I will try it for 5 days. If that does not work, I am going to take the aro out and put him in a 20 gallon.

This is a scarry thought, to me...Guessing and then selling chemicals to fix what might not be broken...
Salt and heat is cheap,
Melafix/pimafix, start there with the 20 gallon hospital tank, way cheaper to dose a small tank.

He is in a 20 gallon right now. Temp is at 79 degrees. It looks that the fins are growing back. I have not used any meds. I'm going to keep him in there for a few weeks to see what happens.

Good tank to hospitalize him in...
If it were me, I'd probably bump the temp up to 82-84f, with a bit of salt..

I've been raising the temp slowly because the heater is a POS and you never know what the setting is.

I'm going to give it another couple days and then try a tablespoon of salt.

He looks pretty cool in this tank... I'll take some pics tonight.

I always go by a seperate thermometer and about 1 degree per hour ;)

Good to hear his fins are growing back, and you placed him in a separate hospital tank w/o meds. Just take it slow and observe him, ensure the water params are optimum, and as zenzzo stated...if you can up the temp a little bit. :D

Good luck.
