So sorry for you. I remember losing my first dog.. It seemed my life was pointless.. Times will get better, be assured! RIP kai.

thanks for all the kind words everyone, just reading all these comments has brought tears to my eyes. it was def. a weird feeling to wake up this morning and not seeing him on the couch. it kills me that his son (our youngest dog) still tries to find him and sleeps in the exact spot Kai used to sleep on the couch when before he never did.

i just wish i could say good bye to him one more time.
 
So sorry for your loss, went through something similar with my 15 year old husky a couple months ago. All we can do is take care of them, love them and let them go when the time comes. Sounds like your dog had a good life with you and was loved very much.
 
That sucks. Sorry to hear. We had to put down our 14 year old shepherd coyote mix last month. My fiancee was devastated. It was rough.
