I never said there was anything wrong with the temp. I was just curious why pay the cost to heat the water to 84 if 78-82 is fine. I am strictly thinking cost reason's I know the temp had nothing to do with the loss of the ray. Which is why I said that then, I was just curious if there was a particular reason for it. Considering the average temp of the amazon rivers water is 77. I keep my tank at 78 or so and it does fluctuate some with house temperature, I just wasn't sure why you would waste the money to heat the water the few extra degrees.

I wonder this myself. You have breading retics at 78 so you know you are doing something right. I would imagine the energy cost is quite significant in large tanks. If you had your tank at 84, I bet it would be a significant increase in energy consumption. I think some people for some reason tend to try to stay on the high side of what ever range they research as to be acceptable. I try to stay in the middle and you are having exceptional results on the low side. Maybe that is one reason your retics are breeding so well?
