I have a Synodontis Eupterus that i have had over 18 years and once had a common plec for over 20 and unlike now that one started in the typical 30 inch tank.I've never kept a fish over 15 years, so yes that's pretty good for captive fish.
I had a couple tin foil barbs for a short time back in 1977, when I knew nothing about them.
But they grew just as fast, and I had them in a 10g LOL
I don't recall what happened to those fish. I got them just before my first child was born and we moved to the country.
But I do remember also having a bala shark and a pictus in that tank and probably a betta.
Most probably perished in the move.

Nice offer, i have a back condition and very rarely drive more than about 30 mins so i think i will have to pass.
I really knew very little about fish keeping until the growth of the internet. I had been doing it over 25 years before I slowly started to wise up, but over the last 20 years I have been more successful.
I didn't realize that certain fish sold as tiny tropical aquarium fish would get to be 2 and 3 ft long. I killed a lot of those fish keeping them in aquariums that were too small.
I didn't realize the difference between keeping a fish alive for 10 years and taking 10 years to slowly kill a fish who should live to be 20.
Anyhow cheap accessible data is going to fix this problem around the world and in every venue. My situation is certainly improved.
It still amazes me that so many shops sell things like Pangasius to people with a 2 foot community tank when almost nobody has the facilities to raise them to adult size.
I once visited a house where an old lady had a small tank and she was telling me she had had a plec that was getting a bit big so she took it back to the shop and they sent her away with 2 albino Pangasius! WTF?
I lost the final one of this group of Tinfoils yesterday (15.5 years old-purchased small in December 2005) measured close to 17 inches, i didn't take a pic as i thought the other one had been bigger but looking at my previous posts i must have been mixing up it's size with my Flagtail.
Sorry for the loss, but an impressive fish and age!
