love for monster fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a lot of tanks w/ various fish when I was a teenager including two Oscars. I had a 55g at my last place, but it's now dry. When we moved to this place it had a pond and I was very excited. I thought that would be enough, but it's not. I'm planning a bigger tank for our game room. I'm not sure what I want to put in there as it'll only be 125g - 150g. However, when our basement gets finished there will be numerous large tanks in there, including a 1,000g w/ Aros and SA/CA cichlids, 300g w/ a Jardini and some grow out and feeder tanks. I love fish and miss having them.

As a small child I saw the movie JAWS and all i could think of was "what a cool pet that would be"My rtc doesnt eat ships or sailors yet but I've got a radio control sub that he chases around

I started around 10 years old when I netted a few baby catfish in the pond down the road and dammed up the feeder creek to make a pond. First big storm came and I lost them all. My father felt bad for me and bought a fish bowl, one neon, and one angel fish.

Three quick stories from those early years:

1 - Once I was running along the highway trying to get to the LFS (five miles away) before they closed. A police car came by and pulled me into the car while he radioed the station to check on run aways.

2 - On another trip I decided to avoid the highway and cut through the mountain trails. I has carrying a 5G tank with a Betta. A policeman started chasing me but I out ran him; crossed over the highway and up the bank on the other side. When he came out of the woods to the edge of the highway, he was panting so hard, he gave up the chase.

3 - I walked 10 miles to the Hess's store in downtown Allentown. I bought two Black Tetras and they put the fish in a container like they use for Chinese food. This was mid-winter so it was cold. About two miles from home, the container started to leak. I ran the last two miles and literally dumped two flopping fish (only a couple ounces of cold water left) into my 29G. So much for slow acclamation.

Did a lot of running and walking back then. Unfortunately I lived on top of a mountain and the end-of-the-day climb up those two miles was a killer.

I started with some fancy goldfish.... loved em but got bored. Discovered the Arowana but was scared of the price. Started raising 3 flowerhorns, now have 4 datnoids as well and a poly. getting my green Aro in 2 weeks

When I was about 10 my mother bought me a 1 gallon tank at walmart, and told me I could get a goldfish. Well, I ended up getting a KOI. It lasted for about 3 weeks. Then I bought a 10 gallon, and overstocked it with incompatible fish. Every fish lasted about 1-10 weeks. The only remaining fish from this set up is a 10 year old, 15 inch, sailfin pleco. Next, I bought another 10 gallon and stocked it with mollies-which are 5 years old now- and cory cats which passed away. Finally at 14, I picked up a 30 gallon at a garage sale-which I still have. I stocked it with the previously mention sailfin pleco and 2 african rift lake cichlids. Then I went to college, and had betta tanks in my dorm. Out of college, the first thing I did was set up a 125 gallon for 2 oscars. Then, the rest is history!

I am a third genaration fish keeper so as someone stated above it's in my DNA. I grew up with two 55 fives and have just recently in the past few months done it again I have owned Jags to Snake heads; False RT to Red devils_ The one I miss the most was Destruction 16'' Red pissed off Devil.:naughty: RIP. But my faviorite was my Wolf Fish he got to 12'' inches in legnth and was the love of my vicious tank life.:irked: And of course I was into the Flower Horn craze in the late 90's but my passion is now to own a 450g and breed Dovi's and True Red terrors!:grinno: I am planning on buying another house in a few years so the skys the limit with me I may just turn the whole basement into an "Aggresive ]V[FK's dream. I have just gotten my girlfriend into the hobby so the years to come look GIGANTIC!

I started off with a feeder fish, then it grew........ HUGE!!!! I now own 109 tanks of my own with any fish you could imagine (freshwater). I also own a petstore (fishstore).

I grew up fishing and I started off with Larry my pet bass in a 10 gallon, then 20 gallon, then 55 gallon, and now a 125 gallon.

When I was little I hated fish and aquariums! I remember being at the doctors office waiting and looking at the fancy goldfish fish etc. I thought to myself "Why would anyone want such a boring pet?" Then when I was in high school I discovered FISH that EAT FISH! (Hence the name) I new they existed but I didnt know I could have one in my house! So I started the hobby with a AGA 55 I bought and snuck into my room because I knew my parents would think it was too big. I figured I would have some extra negociating leverage once the tank was full and weighed 500lbs ha ha! Currently I have only three tanks running. My oscar, compressicepts, and polypterous tank. Green Spotted puffer tank. And my newest tank is a 14 gallon Nano Reef. Plans to build a large ply tank once I have the right place.
